Well-Crafted Cocktails at Colonie

We say farewell to Brooklyn this week and, in the process, have been trying to hit some of our favorite food spots along the way, and are trying as many of the new ones as we can before we leave. Colonie is actually a newer place that we walked to as part of our "exercise en route to cocktails" regime. (Not sure Weight Watchers would endorse this plan, but it sure makes working out more fun.) Colonie is a new hot spot that opened on Atlantic Avenue is the virtual culinary wasteland that is Brooklyn Heights, so I was curious to check it out. We sat at the bar and tried a couple of the drinks and some of the nibbles. The drinks are hand-crafted from pure ingredients, and I always appreciate the effort. My cucumber martini used juice from a whole cucumber, so it turned a bright green. The Pineapple Pisco was frothy and had just the perfect level of sweetness. We tried a few of the small plates on the menu and we were a little disappointed in most of them, but the mushroom-truffle crostini was a big hit, which toasted crostini and earthy wild mushrooms, laden with garlic and truffles. I love that Brooklyn has so many spots like this that are always popping up!
