Market Alert: Hatch Green Chiles

When the first chill hit the air in Brooklyn this year, I found myself yearning for Santa Fe. Nothing compares to the cool, bright clarity of the high mountain mornings, and the pinon-scented air. I was leading a culinary tour of Santa Fe around this time last year and we had such an amazing time together. One of my favorite places in Santa Fe is the farmers market, where the smell of green chiles roasting permeates the air. You simply couldn’t find these amazing Hatch Green Chiles in Brooklyn….until now! Foragers’ Market in Dumbo has imported these fine beauties in three heat levels: medium, hot, and step-the-hell-back-super-hot. They are 7.99/lb, which is a little extravagant for peppers, but I was willing to splurge for a little fix of New Mexico in my hometown.
