Garlic scape-jalepeno pesto

I recently had an amazing garlic scape pesto that made me want to recreate it at home. Garlic scapes are funky little things that somewhat resemble scallions and taste like garlic. Here is a take on what I tried, but with a little addition of spiciness. I like most things a little hot. I added miso paste in place of the cheese because I planned to serve it on an amazing Copper River salmon that I just bought. Lovely, flavorful, and deep red, this salmon is only available for a few weeks each year. When I see it in the stores, I have to submit despite the usually nutty price. I served it on top of pureed greenmarket cauliflower and sauteed swiss chard with garlic.
Ingredients:
1 bunch young garlic scapes, chopped
1 bunch cilantro, chopped
1/2 bunch parsley, chopped
1/2 cup pine nuts
1/2-1 jalepeno, diced fine
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tsp white miso paste
Sea salt to taste
Directions:
Puree all ingredients but olive oil and salt. Add olive oil through feed tube until ground fine. Add salt to taste. Top seafood with the pesto or add to omlettes, pasta, and ricotta.
In case you don’t know what a scape is, here’s a little article on the lovely little creatures:
